Gen 20:1-13 ; 26:1-11

Why are you and i not honest?

1. People lie because of fear.

Abraham lied to Abimelech of Sarah being his sister out of fear for what they could have done to him.

Genesis 20:11 Abraham replied, "I said to myself, 'There is surely no fear of God in this place, and they will kill me because of my wife.'

Whatever you do while lying you do it only for the temporal moment.

2. People lie for personal gain.

Matthew 16:26 What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul?

3. People lie because of expectations.

Areas where you can be honest;

Be honest with others. For it is the basis of trust.

Be honest with God.

{1 Sam 16.7 ; 1 Chron 28.9 ; Mark 9:14-24}

Psalms 139:1-4 You have searched me, LORD, and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue you, LORD, know it completely.

Be honest with yourself.
